Where The Popsicles Are-159

St. Patrick’s Day is upon us. Time was, at the house on Mandan St. it could have just as well been declared a National Holiday. It has caused me to remember something special.

The Emerald Crystal

Emeralds were your favorites.
They matched you
Better than other gemstones.

The emerald crystal you wore was unique, like you.
And anyone who saw it knew,
There was Irish in your soul.

There was Irish in your heart as well,
And anyone who saw it knew,
There was Irish in your eyes.

You wore it well, that emerald crystal.
It was bought, you said, as a birthday present for yourself, but
I like to think some magic, Irish jeweler made it just for you.

It was as if the all of Ireland
Hung from that gold chain around your neck.
And anyone who saw it, knew it belonged there.

Your raven black hair, fair skin, blue eyes and smile,
Made a brilliant setting for the emerald crystal you loved so much,
And it said to the world, “I am Irish.”

Everyone who saw it knew,
No one wore it better.
